For refuseniks who still want the ability to chat with Facebook users, you used to be able to sign up for Facebook Messenger without a Facebook account. That’s no longer the casereports on the change.Facebook has quietly removed the ability to sign up for Messenger without a Facebook account, the company confirmed to VentureBeat this afternoon. Previously, new users using the Messenger or Messenger Lite app could opt to use their phone number in lieu of an account Facebook rolled out the ability to sign up for Messenger sans account in June 2015, first for users in the U.S., Canada, Peru, and Venezuela. In addition to phone numbers, photos and names were accepted as forms of login identification. That’s now changed, with Facebook claiming it’s in the name of simplicity.“If you’re new to Messenger, you’ll notice that you need a Facebook account to chat with friends and close connections,” a spokesperson said via email.

You must be logged into Facebook through Chrome to use it - so if you are on the website and log out, you will no longer get messenger notifications with this extension. Only for the easily distracted. Facebook Messenger extension for Chrome works, but begs the question 'why?' There are no reasons to use it.
“We found that the vast majority of people who use Messenger already log in through Facebook and we want to simplify the process.
. SEND A MESSAGE -Skip exchanging phone numbers, just send a message. It's seamless across devices. CUT DOWN GLARE WITH DARK MODE. Amanda Hazelnut, A couple things need to be fixedThere needs to be a better notification when someone you’re not friends with messages you. Message requests are banished to an unintuitive corner of the screen where they are too easily overlooked. This is a huge problem for networking and connecting with members of your groups.Lately when I’ve been opening conversation threads on the app, I find the text from the last message I sent duplicated in the composition bubble.
The message was sent, but the app copied and kept the text. Just annoying. When communicating with marketplace buyers, the thread is always labeled with my name first and then the product. This is really confusing, especially when I’ve responded to more than one listing.
I open the app and it’s just lines of my name. Makes it hard to distinguish between conversations. Please alter it so that I can see the name of the person I’m talking to- or no name at all, just the item description.Otherwise, rare glitches and good phone quality. I use this app constantly and it is very reliable, kept up to date, and is worth having.
To-WhomIt-MayConcern, New update is less than satisfactory. This new update removes a lot of features that, personally, I rather appreciated. Such as being able to tell if someone had read your message without having to open the actual conversation, holding down on emojis to make them “blow up” like a ballon, and (from reading some other people’s complaints) the games and even some stickers and the such just stop working and/or showing up. And on top of that this is an app that was originally created simply to allow people to connect by text or call without the need of a phone number, essentially making it easier for families and friends to get in touch and stay in touch for each other. This app was not meant to be, and should never mean to be as it cannot be properly supported, as a business or advertisement application. If you would like to have an app specifically for that purpose, then by all means build an app AROUND that purpose so it will work as intended without any complications or community backlash. Yes you still have the basic fundamentals, but what made people come back to using Messenger and not other messaging apps were the quirks that you have unfortunately taken out of your system. I do hope that you will take everyone’s grievances into consideration and reimplement what was taken out with this update.

Thank you for your time reading this review if you ever do. Tambri62, Not Horrible but Has IssuesAlthough I have connected with some amazing people through this app and love the fact that I can connect with people all over the world this app is not a dating app and people need to be respectful of that.
I’m not on messenger to hook up with people and receive numerous messages and random calls from people during all times of the day and night. I do understand I can shut my phone off or use my sleep setting on my phone but have had a parent experiencing some health issues and don’t want to shut my phone down as I may need to take a call or message at anytime. The other thing I don’t like is that people know the second I connect to Facebook or messenger and become active on the sight. Sometimes I just jump on to check something out for business purposes and get bombarded with messages.
It would be nice to have the ability to get online without the world knowing I’m there.
